Frequently Asked Questions
-
You can book a free 15-minute discovery call to briefly meet, ask any questions and get a sense of whether working together might be a good fit.
If you're ready to begin, you can also book your first session directly through the online booking link on my website. You don't need to know exactly what you want to work on before we meet — we can begin from wherever you are.
-
I offer therapy in person and online via Zoom. For online sessions, you can join from a private and comfortable space that works for you. You're welcome to arrange your environment in ways that support your comfort, attention and sensory needs.
-
Individual sessions are 60 minutes and couples sessions are 90 minutes. Ongoing therapy is generally weekly or fortnightly at an agreed time. We can discuss what frequency makes sense for you and the work we are doing.
-
I recognise that people differ in how they process, communicate, regulate, sense and relate to the world.
There is no expectation to make eye contact, sit still, identify feelings on demand or communicate in a particular way. You are welcome to ask for more processing time, clearer language, greater structure or other adjustments that make therapy more accessible for you.
-
The initial sessions include a more structured assessment to help me understand your relationship, your current concerns and what each of you hopes might change. You’ll also be invited to complete some individual questionnaires, which help me understand each person’s perspective and give us a broader picture of your relationship.
From there, we can explore your relationship more deeply, understand what happens between you and develop practical relational skills that support connection, communication and repair.
-
The therapeutic setting is the structure that holds our work together: an agreed session time, frequency, length, fee and other practical arrangements.
A clear and reliable setting creates safety, predictability and shared responsibility. It provides steady ground for exploration, discovery and change.
-
Yes. What you share in therapy is treated as confidential, within the legal and ethical limits of confidentiality.
I also participate in professional supervision as part of ethical and reflective practice. When discussing my clinical work in supervision, I take care to protect your identity and privacy.
-
No referral is required to work with me.
-
I am a registered counselor rather than a psychologist, so Medicare rebates and Mental Health Treatment Plans do not apply to my sessions. My fees are generally comparable to the out-of-pocket cost of therapy accessed through a Mental Health Treatment Plan, with no Medicare-imposed limit on the number of sessions you can attend.
-
You are free to pause or finish therapy at any time.
Where possible, I encourage us to talk about ending and have a final session. This gives us an opportunity to reflect on our work, acknowledge what has changed and make space for anything that feels important or unfinished.
